The heart of The Hague is being turned over to hockey during the Rabobank Hockey World Cup. The square next to the Dutch parliament gets a pavilion, a mini pitch, an outside stage and a giant screen for following the action. Local broadcaster Omroep West will take charge of the radio studio and the programming will include transmissions live from the Kyocera Stadium.
Everyone’s invited
For the entire two weeks of the Rabobank Hockey World Cup, locals, tourists and hockey fans will be able to take part in free cultural, sports, educational and culinary events. The square will come to life early in the morning and the action will continue deep into the night. The Hague Hockey Square is open to everyone so if you don’t have a ticket for the matches, you will still be able to soak up the World Cup atmosphere.
Activities for all
Former hockey players Ties Kruize and Lisanne Lejeune are in charge of attracting local schools and clubs to take part in special activities on the square. And politicians, former internationals and students will be turning out to play matches as well. The square will host the finals of the street and company hockey events and there will be live performances on stage and cooking workshops from top Dutch chef Pierre Wind.
