New Zealand vs China – Women 14 June 2014

“The playoff for 5th place saw New Zealand go up against China at the 2014 Rabobank Women’s Hockey World Cup. New Zealand scored from their first penalty corner in the 6th minute with Anita Punt scoring from a drag flick.

The teams went into the half time break with the score 1-0. In the 45th minute Kayla Whitelock extended the Black Sticks’ lead to 2-0 after they were awarded a penalty stroke. Anita Punt almost made it three after a break-away run but her shot was saved by the Chinese keeper.

Two minutes later, the score was 3-0 and Anita Punt got her second goal of the day from another penalty corner. Soon after, the score was 4-0 after a fantastic overhead stick effort by Krystal Forgesson in the 63rd minute. The score line was enough to seal 5th place for New Zealand.
