Both Australian men and women take the Oceania Cup title. Both had to face host country New-Zealand. The women’s match ended in 5-4, the men’s in 5-2. As both Australian teams had already secured their Rabobank Hockey World Cup 2014 ticket, the World-cup tickets go the reserves. Based on their performances during the semi-finals of the Hockey World League, these will be India for the men’s tournament and Belgium for the women’s.
Women’s final decided in shootout
The women’s final had to be decided by a shootout. The scores were locked at 1-1 at halftime after goals by Sophie Cocks en Jordyn Holzberger. In the second half both Kayla Sharland and Madonna Blyth scored. As the match was locked at 2-2 at fulltime a shootout had to decide the match. In the end Australia won by 5-4.
Australian men continue dominance in Oceania Cup
The Australian men quickly took the lead in the first half and at halftime they had extended their lead to 2-0. In the second half they added yet another three goals to their halftime lead. Responsible for the Kookaburras’ goals were Jacob Whetton (2x), Jason Wilson, Russell Ford and Glenn Simpson. For the New-Zealand Black Sticks Steve Edwards and Nick Haig were successful. Score at fulltime: 5-2.
