Dutch women win World Hockey League

The Dutch women’s hockey team were the convincing winners of the World Hockey League in Sunday’s final, beating Australia 5-1 in Argentina. The international women’s teams are now focusing on the Rabobank Hockey World Cup 2014 which will take place in The Hague in June. The men are still preparing for their Hockey World League finals in India which run from January 10-18.

The Netherlands were 1-0 down at half time but went on to a 5-1 victory in the second half. The final goal, scored by Lidewij Welten, who was voted best player in the competition, was particularly impressive. Taking the ball in the air, Welten dodged round three players and the keeper to place the ball neatly into the net. Watch the goal.
