Rabobank Hockey World Cup

India crushed

The Dutch woman made is to the semi-finals of the Hockey World League in Rotterdam. Max Caldas’ team beat India in the quarter final by 8 goals to 1. The Netherlands have now also qualified for the final stage of the HWL to be held in Argentina in December.

The end score would suggest otherwise but Holland had a tough start against India who defended well. The Dutch were not sharp enough in the finishing of the chances they created. It wasn’t until the 21st minute that Holland opened the score. Frederique Derkx accelerated down the line and passed to Vermale who hit the ball across the goal to find Lammers in a goal scoring position. The experienced centre forward stayed calm and finished: 1-0.

Holland had the better of the first half and treated the supporters to a couple of nice moves. This led to a penalty corner in the 31st minute, and who else then Maartje Paumen to execute from the top of the circle: 2-0.

After the break it was Holland who kept the pressure on the Indian defence, who stood their ground. Eventually the wall started to crumble and the Dutch took full advantage. Ellen Hoog scored with her speciality reverse hit, 3-0. India got a goal back to make it 3-1 when Vandana Katariya scored a excellent tip-in.

The goal was short lived as debutant Valerie Magis made it 4-1. It was her first goal in the Orange shirt. The eleventh short corner of the match resulted in the 5-1, scored by Eva de Goede. Seven minutes later Sabine Mol made it 6-1, just before Paumen scored yet another corner: 7-1. Eva de Goede eventually sealed the deal one minute before the end by scoring the 8-1.

Holland take on New Zealand in the RHWL. This game will be played on Thursday 20th June at 20.00.
