On Saturday, November 23, the men’s and women’s teams of South Africa became the continental champions of Africa. Both teams have now secured their places at the Rabobank Hockey World Cup 2014. In an exciting final day the South Africa women beat Ghana by 3-2. The men played against Egypt and concluded the match with 2-0.
Women
South Africa women were given a massive scare by Ghana, being forced to fight back from a 2-0 half time deficit. After strikes from Celia Evans and Bernie Coston, Tanya Britz scored the last goal two minutes from full time to eventually win 3-2.
Men
The South Africa men's team had to withstand a fierce challenge from Egypt. A stunning Julian Hykes action goal in the eighth minute was embellished by Clint Panther's clincher two minutes from full-time to win the men’s final 2-0. In this way both teams secured a ticket for The Hague!
