This is: Kieran Govers

Kieran Govers is a true Kookaburra hero, the tattooed and tough Australian approaches the game in a combative and direct style. He made his debut for the national team in 2010 and has been a regular on the team ever since. He was part of the squad that won World Cup gold in 2010 and also has two Champions Trophy gold medals in his possession.

Much of his domestic hockey is played in Europe. The 28-year-old has played for Mannheim in Germany and more recently played in the Dutch League. This was an experience that made him re-evaluate some aspects of his game. "It took me a while to fit in," he says. "The Dutch play a much more holding, patient game, where I just go for goal by the most direct route."

The 28-year-old has ambitions to join the police force, but for now he is singleminded in his determination to score the goals that will help the Kookaburras retain the World Cup.
