The Spanish men start their World Cup campaign on the first day of the event against fourth-ranked England. The Spanish men have taken part in 12 previous World Cups and won the silver medal in Barcelona and Utrecht. Nevertheless, they face a tough start to the tournament. Two days after their opening match against England, the Spaniards take on Australia, who lead the world rankings.

The Spanish men are currently 10th in the world. They were fifth in the 2010 World Cup and came sixth at the 2012 Olympics in London.
