Rabobank Hockey World Cup

Argentina vs USA – Women 14 June 2014

“Argentina went up against the USA to determine which nation would finish third at the 2014 Rabobank Women’s Hockey World Cup. Argentina drew first blood in the 8th minute with Luciana Aymar superbly deflecting a high pass into the goal.

However, the lead only lasted two minutes as the USA scored from their first penalty corner with Lauren Crandall deflecting in a shot at the post to put the teams level at 1-1. Argentina retook the lead in the 22nd minute with Aymar getting her second goal of the game. The USA peppered the Argentinian goal with shots but could not find an equaliser before the break.

The Americans made a great effort to force a shoot-out but could not break through the Argentinian defence and the defending World Cup champions ensured they would go home with bronze medals.
