“The first game on Saturday saw India take on Korea for 9th place at the 2014 Rabobank Men’s Hockey World Cup. India got off to a good start and was 1-0 up after six minutes when Akashdeep Singh scored a field goal. India went close to adding a second but were denied by the post and reached the break with just the one goal lead.
Eight minutes into the second half, India were awarded a penalty stroke which Rupinder Singh fired low into the corner to put his nation 2-0 up. Akashdeep Singh got his second goal of the game, and fifth of the tournament, in the 51st minute to extend India’s lead to 3-0. Korea couldn’t find a goal in reply, and India won the game to finish 9th.
