Rabobank Hockey World Cup

Netherlands vs Argentina – Women 12 June 2014

“Host nation the Netherlands took on current champions Argentina in the second semi-final of the 2014 Rabobank Women’s Hockey World cup to see who will play Australia in the final. Five minutes into the game the Netherlands’ Kelly Jonker found herself one-on-one with the keeper but stumbled before she could get a shot away.

The Dutch were putting pressure on the Argentinian defence and in the 10th minute they went 1-0 up with a great field goal by 18 year old Xan de Waard. Six minutes later the score was 2-0 when Maartje Paumen blasted home a penalty corner. The Oranje were running away with the game and went 3-0 in the 22nd minute when Kim Lammers controlled a bouncing ball to send it into the cage.

With the job done in the first half, the Netherlands focused on defending their lead but didn’t come up against a troubling Argentinian side. In the final minute of the game, the Dutch put the icing on the cake and scored a great, flowing team goal finished by Kim Lammers to put the Netherlands safely into the final against Australia.
