Westland Greenhouse

Visitors to the Rabobank Hockey World Cup 2014 might be surprised to find a massive greenhouse right next to the Kyocera Stadium. The greenhouse project is a key part of the Dutch hockey association KNHB’s efforts to stimulate healthy eating -  particularly in the sports club canteen. Greenhouse horticulture is concentrated in the Westland part of the Netherlands which lies in the province of Zuid-Holland, and local growers will be on hand to tempt international visitors with fresh, delicious and healthy fruit and vegetable snacks.

The aim is to encourage sports clubs to sell more than French fries and fried snacks to hungry players and supporters off the field. Special interactive events for children are being organised, and during the tournament itself there will be conferences and workshops about healthy alternatives for club canteen cooks.

The Westland Greenhouse project has been realised with the help of the Westland Marketing Foundation and the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport.
